Default Anyone in here ever get a security clearance?

This may be an "Other Topics", if it is...sorry.

Just curious...

I had one (security clearance) in the military, but am possibly going to take a job where I'll need one as a contractor (likely just secret, but TS is possible).

I was curious about the 'civilian' process. Namely, if the SF-86 form (the one with all your information) gets seen by your employer? I know they have to submit it for you but not sure how - if it's electronically or what.

Yes, your civilian employer will see your SF-86. It's usually submitted electronically, but you're supposed to provide a signed hardcopy as well. (At least that's been my experience for most DoD contractors.)

And yeah, this should be an "other topic."

Thanks Dukie.

I downloaded the 'application' version (the one you can download off the DSS site). There's a section in there where you provide confidential information and is password protected (supposedly to protect from your security officer, which doesn't really make any sense - unless it's your companies HR person who is the acting 'security officer'). So, I'm curious as to why they would take such careful precautions there only to have you write it all down and pass it around to the HR people in your company?

Also, I'm curious as to how people go about filling in the 'places you've lived' section and then listing at least one person and their current contact information that lived close to you? WTF? I lived in a new place nearly every semester when I was in college. I honestly can't even remember all the places that I lived let alone the name of a neighbor. How on earth do they handle that crap?

I'm beginning to think less and less that this is a thread about Doom 3...

Sucka. I'm a vet too. I had a TS with an SBI and SAC/SAP supplements, which is about as cleared as one can get.

After I got out I had a "Secret" one done by an employer for a defense contractor I had worked for very briefly. The civilian company's security manager was privy to the file. They asked me about a time MP's had picked me up for getting in a fistfight with another officer . Hell, it wasn't even a poker game. So, yes, they will know if you have been naughty.

HAHA - Too funny Derringer. Actually, I don't quite have anything that bad - more curious than anything else. I did send you a PM though.

Thanks!

In case any one is interested...

I found these. DSS decisions on a bunch of security clearances for the past several years. Some are pretty funny.
