common(?) graphics problem

i know i've seen this posted previously, but i can't find the fix in a search:

just got a new laptop, with 1400x1050 res, when i boot party or tables i have a box of useless crap around the window. how do i fix that?

Display properties (right click on desktop; select "properties"); settings tab; advanced button; general tab; DPI setting should be 96.

How is 4 tabling on the laptop?

i'll tell you when i fix this graphics problem. seems like it'll be ok though.
