Card Player Cruises Trip Roll Call 12/2/05

Will there be any 2+2ers on the CPC trip to the Mexican Riveria? The trip is close, and I figured now would be a good time to ask the forum.

I know of one famous 2+2er that will be on board, and I was wondering if anyone else was going.

I'm not going....but I was on the PPM cruise last March which was also Mexican Riviera and was also a CardPlayer cruise...so it's essentially the same cruise except that there's a big tournament as well.

Had a blast...they do a really terrific job.
Would have been difficult for us to have had any more fun (although a DJ at their club that didn't play so many crappy songs would have been nice).

Do you remember where they set up the poker room. I have the luxury of knowing this ship from a previous trip, and I haven't the slightest idea where they're putting all the tables!

Is the WHOLE cruise filled with poker-players?

I suspect there were more poker-players on the PPM cruise on the MS Oosterdam and perhaps your cruise has SOME poker-players AND some regular cruise-goers. Not sure.

The MAIN poker-room was in the upstairs part of the dining-room. They had 50-60 tables in there I think.

There was also a smaller room near the computer area (and kind of near the library maybe??) which had 15 tables.

The tourney was divided between these two rooms...but the ring-games were in the upstairs part of the dining-room.

I liked the dining-room part....if the sun wasn't shining through too badly than sometimes they wouldn't close the shades.
Big poker tournament with nothing but the clear-blue ocean out the window for scenery.
Not too shabby.


I imagine the poker-area will depend on how many players they hav and how much room they determine is necessary.
they could conceiveably use a completely different area for the poker.

I'm imagining that the cruise has a standard amount of players (non-PPM cruise). I imagined that the poker room would be somewhere near the casino in a dance club of sorts.

Guess I'll just have to be suprised.

I've been on 2 of these cruises. On a "normal" Cardplayer cruise (not the Party Poker Million), they do not take over the whole ship. The group is about 300 and not all in the group play. They usually use the library and or conference rooms on the ship and have a total of 20 tables or so. Usually it gets split between 2 or 3 rooms according to limits. Expect mostly limit holdem and Omaha Hi/Low from 2-4 and 4-8 up to about 20-40 although they may spread anything that generates enough interest. It's a middle age and up crowd so don't expect much NL. I've never seen them do stud either except as part of a 20-40 2 way with Omaha Hi/Low alternating with stud Hi/Low. Also only Cardplayer Cruises group members can play in the room. It is not open to the rest of the ship.

I was also wondering how long the waits were for the games. I play mainly low limit hold'em, so this sounds like the games are right up my alley.

Usually the waits are not bad. Last years cruise on the Carnival Legend was a little worse because the ship gave us less space that was originally planned for. The result was that everyone rushed to the cardroom after dinner. Many went to bed early so if you came back at 10 you'd get right in a game. And incidentally, late at night the off duty dealers jump into the 4-8 hold em game and the action gets quite crazy, pots occasionally over $200 and all in $1 chips. On my ealier cruise in 2003 on the Elation, I never had to wait for a game.

My wife and I went on the Alaska cruise this last August, had the most wonderful time imaginable! They setup 20 tables in 2 connected library-type rooms next to the casino. If you didn't book thru cardplayercruises you could buy a badge for $150 on the boat to get access to playing area. Appx 250 ppl outa 1500 on the boat were poker players - all the nicest funnest players you'll ever meet. Lots of limit and NL games, but I was also surprised how popular Omaha and O8 were. The cardplayer staff and dealers were excellent, the tournaments very well run.. just truly an amazing cruise, my only one so far. Every cruise I ever go on from now on tho will be booked thru cardplayer... can't imagine how boring it would be going on a cruise without them.
