There's a few examples of this in SSH. At this point, with the size of the pot, Shill needs to begin fighting for the pot. Though rare, the situations where Shill wins this pot with a pair of Q's are what make this raise good. Though it's unlikely that exactly Q8, KQ, and QJo are out there, by raising, Shill can often increase his pot equity by enough to justify spending the extra SB.

Basically, this is your standard "when the pot is large, do everything within your control to win the pot."
