Default Question about nuts

Say the flop is 3h 7h 6h. The nuts are 4h 5h, but would Ah 5h and Ah 4h also be the nuts?

Yes. The "nuts", by definition, is the best possible hand. If you have A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], it's not possible for anyone else to have a 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], so you have the best possible hand. You are "blocking" the straight flush.

Note, however, that you have the best possible hand on the flop. If the turn or river is either 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], or T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], you no longer have the nuts, because another (higher) straight flush is possible.

I may be wrong, but I think the only way you can have the pure, unbeatable nuts on the flop (without knowing your opponent's cards) is if you flop a royal. Even if you have quad aces, someone may have a backdoor draw to a straight flush.

If the flop is 2h 3h 4h and you have 5h 6h then you have unbeatable nuts.

True. I was right about being wrong.

This question seems to be posted every few days. The simple answer is that even if it's not technically the nuts (though I say it is), it is the best possible hand at the time. That's what's important, not what you call it.

There is a small difference in terms.

Nuts - best possible hand at that point in the hand.
Stone Nuts - best possible hand period, regardless of cards to come.
