Default Not my favorite play - A2s

Party Poker 5/10 6-max (4-handed)

Hero is Button with A2s.

Preflop: Hero raises, BB calls

Flop: JT2r none of my suit. BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.

Turn: Rainbow jack. Villain checks, Hero bets, Villain checkraises, Hero 3-bets, ...

Villain is a 72/4. I had logged a lot of hands versus him the last two nights. I'm sure he was acutely aware that I raise a lot preflop, pelt people with chips, and frequently fold when the police show up. He is very loose/passive on the flop. The turn is his street and he checkraises a whole lot. He's also active on the river.

What do you think?

If he'll very often bluff the river, I don't think this line has much to gain over simply calling down.

you might get him to incorrectly fold a 6 outer

Exactly.

I think the turn 3-bet was spewage. I'm actually thinking FOLDING would be the correct turn play. Remember, this guy's PFR is only 4%. Now, this doesn't really tell us anything about his postflop play, but if I had to guess, I'd lean towards him being on the passive side.

I suppose hero has marginal odds to call and try to improve on the river.

However, i'm leaning towards a fold on the river, if unimproved.

I think folding the turn is best as well. Something to consider about this whole line of thinking is that if you truly suspect he might try something like this against you, wait for a time when you are better equipped to make him pay. This is just too dangerous. He can have so much to beat you and I think you're beat here most of the time. Making this play with this hand is like going all in with 55 against an idiot's 7To. Why not wait for QQ against his 33? In other words, if you suspect he's being tricky, you'll get him in the future in a better spot, so don't push it now if you're just not sure. That thinking leads to spewage which leads to tilt (for me).

What do you gain if he incorrectly folds a 6-outer? Very little EV. What do you lose if you are wrong? A whole lot. How strong is your read on his aggression here? Mild-not strong at all (according to what we know).

You realize I provided a postflop read?

yes, note i'm not recommending this line because of that, just suggesting a benefit of 3-betting rather than calling.

But your postflop read was that the guy was active on the turn and river. I'm not sure about folding the turn, but I think this read is reason not to be overly aggressive on the turn.
