Default Tournament Poker FAP

What is the general opinion on this book? I rarely hear people say much about it at all, which seems strange. If not this book, what is consideered "the bible" on Tournament Poker?

(And if there is no bible, then I'd love to hear about a few of the contenders.)

Do a search on the multitable and one table tourney forums for the word "TPFAP"; I'd say it's a pretty good book if everyone uses it

Funny thing:

I gave my TPFAP, and Helmuth's books to a friend. Went over to his house, and him and a few other friends think Helmuth's book is better. No wonder they don't know WTF they are doing.

Do you know of an archive anywhere of all of Jim Anchower's stories?

I don't think these books are particularly competitive. TPFAP is a lot narrower in scope-- Phil's book gives a new tournament player a decent start in jumping into the tournament waters. TPFAP covers more advanced topics for people to think about once they have a reasonable tournament approach in place.

I dont like TPFAP at all. I wish I never bought the book.

I would reccomend anyone who is considering buying it to get HPFAP or TOP instead.

Its a redundant book and if I hadnt known any better I would think it was written by captain obvious.

The book is $23.96 -EV (amazon.com, shipping not included) for anyone with decent ringgame experience, because you will learn _nothing_ from it.

Now this is starting to sound like trolling so I should add that I love the other 2+2 books I've read, but TPFAP is the most disapointing thing I've encountered since the first time I tried to have sex drunk.

@kenewbie:
Why cant you learn anything from this?? I considered buying it because I know nothing about tournament play. How can ring game experience help you, arent the strategies in tournaments quite different?

Ringgames are helpfull because it gives you experience in playing poker. I cannot tell you if the book will help you or not, just that I didnt learn anything from it.

And yes, there are differences between tournaments and ringgames. But other than stating the obvious (when you run out of chips you cannot win! Thank you for that nugget) the book actually spends most of its time repeating the things that are SIMILAR, and almost no time on the concepts that are specific to tournaments.

Example:
The oh-so-repeated "gap theory" is something most ringgame with some decent amount of time under their belt should know about. This is not specific to tournaments at all.

So while I havent read any of the other tournament books out there for a comparison, I must say that TPFAP is not a book I would recommend to anyone.

It might be stretching it, but for the price of the book you might aswell play some cheap SNGs and be better off.

The problem is they already had the all the basics covered in Phil's book.

Haha, Phil's book is an absolute waste of time for tournament players. Beginner or not. Sit me at the same table as someone who is using Phil's suggested strategy and I will eat him alive.

While TPFAP is not the book I thought it was going to be, it still has some very good points in it.

Your best bet if you want to become a good tournament player is to read this forums posts and practice.

Cheers,
Bernas (nasber)
