Default What is the most important aspect of your success in poker?

I think for me it was finally accepting the fact that no matter how big of a favorite I am on any street, I don’t “deserve” to win the hand. It took me a long time to get to that point, but I feel like it has been the most important aspect of my play so far.

I think envisioning your success in the long run is very important. It's like how babies can only understand an object's existence that's in front of them. As soon as you remove it, it doesn't exist anymore. They have no grasp of the bigger picture of life. I think a lot of beginner poker players suffer from a similar syndrome, in that they can't look past the present. I had a friend who had five winning sessions in AC and thought he was prepared to go pro and get rich. He had no concept of variance or the bigger picture. Once you're able to look past the present, and realize that your success is more dependent on the long run, I think you steam less and are able to control your game better.

(Now go back and read the baby analogy - it's horrible.)

I am terrible at this.

I would say BR management. Avoiding tilt and being pleased with earning theoretical dollars is also a big one. I dont know a single good player who is results oriented.

by far, i think, the reason for my sucess is my attitude. i have had many oppertunites to give up, but i never have and i never will. i am always sure i wil eventually be able to turn it around and grow from my mistakes and misfortunes.
that and i have gotten staked and gotten lucky a few times when it was really important.
