Default Re: Blind Stealing Poll

I raise all. I almost voted fold on A5o, but then I saw that BB was 14 VPIP which made it a raise. Although I think button's VPIP might be more important when stealing from the CO, since I'd much rather have position and I've generally found it harder to push cold-callers out of pots.

With everyone behind me playing VPIPs lower than 15, my open-raising standards drop a helluva lot lower than the hands in this poll. So, yeah, every one of my poll responses were "raise".

In fact, with those players and this blind structure, you could make an excellent case for raising with any two--your opponents are good enough to figure out what you're doing over a long session, but they're also good enough to make correct folds postflop when you represent a strong hand there. Until someone calls me down & I'm forced to show J high, why not steal their blinds?

I think A7o is quite a bit better than A5s in this situation.

These are high-card-chicken types of hands in SH pots. Higher cards are more valuable than suitedness. That five is pretty pathetic when you make a pair with it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree that high card power is more important than suitedness. This is why I'm not advocating something like 85s over A2o.

This is just an easy way to estimate how much suitedness adds to your hand.

Especially if everyone behind you is tight, and it will often be HU on the flop.

[/ QUOTE ]

OK? I contend they're still about the same when HU.

Against a random hand, A5s has a little more equity than A7o. (60% vs. 58.9%)

Against the following range, A5s has a little more equity than A7o:
AA-22, AKs-A2s, KQs-K2s, QJs-Q4s, JTs-J6s, T9s-T8s, AKo-A2o, KQo-K2o, QJo-Q4o, JTo-J6o, T9o-T8o (54.4 vs 53.6)
