Personally, I really haven't found anyone's avatar to be offensive. What I would find offensive is 2+2 caving in to the ravings of a dozen or so people who do find them offensive when avatars can be simply be turned off. I realize that 2+2 might just be trying to play the C.Y.A game, but I haven't seen anything pornographic or anything that can be viewed as a personal attack against another poster.

Actually, there have been significant improvements recently. Perhaps the moderators did do something, or they were voluntarily removed.

I do believe in free speech. It's very unusual for me to bring up such a point.

Some of the images just truly made me feel nauseous. Every time, I opened a thread, I was hoping certain members would not be posting, just to not have to see their avatars.

Now that the problem has been resolved, can a moderator please delete this thread or move it to "Forum Suggestions"?

Thank you

My Home -> Edit Display... -> View user's pictures with their posts? = No.

That will get rid of all avatars.

I did this for two reasons.

First, I agree with the OP that I found a lot of the pictures distateful or sophomoric. And I'm a raving liberal who likes dirty jokes and boobs at least as much as the next guy.

Secondly, there are many, many people who will happily use an 1200x800 GIF file as their avatar. They don't think it's a big deal, but it is. When the page loads, it's loading that massive GIF every time. When you scroll, often times the scrolling lags because of the huge graphic.

I tried adblocking for awhile, but I really found it much nicer viewing with all avatars off.

Regards,

T

Am I missing something, or is that just Bert from Sesame Street making an angry face?

PairOfElevens just changed his avatar. Much, much better.

The members or the moderators must have reacted to my post.
The most distasteful avatars seem to have been removed or replaced.

Complaining about being offended on the internet is like complaining about getting wet in a swimming pool.

Help me out here.... either he changed his image in the last few days... or isn't this just a closeup of Bert from Sesame Street?

You find looking at an image of a black person nauseating?

I find your name offensive, it's glorifying crime.

The moderators should force you to change it.

I'm not African American, by the way, nor particularly politically correct.

So you're just an uptight nit then?

Of course it is.
But "racism", like "beauty" is in the eye of the beholder.
