Default 5/6 card PLO8 hand/strategy?

I played a loose 2-5 PLO8 home game tonight and we were playing 5 and 6 cards to a person sometimes. I'm wondering if my game should change much, should I just become even more of a nut peddler? The hand I went broke on disturbed me a lot..

5-card PLO8, I limped on the button with TT445, not great but maybe worth a flop in good position. The flop was K75 and it was checked all around. The turn was a T giving me the second best hand on a still Rainbow board. SB bet out 50 and got 3 callers and I pushed the rest of my chips for only 120 more. SB folded and two people called me. the river was a 4 and my set lost to a straight and second-nut low.

I'm just wondering if this is the right move since there were so many cards I needed to dodge playing 5/6 cards, about the only thing I would like to see is the board pairing(which never seemed to happen at the right time for me, gah).

Is there a different strategy when you play 5/6 cards? Are sets absolute junk?

I think it was Ray Zee's book that talks about 5 card Omaha. he said that you have to play extremely tight and only play the nuts.

I have read four Omaha books one right after the other so I may have the wrong book.

I was going to say this belongs in the HOME POKER section as a joke, but then I saw there IS a HOME POKER section!!!

This probably will not help... but, I'll attempt to analyze.

First, how many players were there at the table. I assume 5-7. So you are somewhat shorthanded and should play more hands.

Second, TT445 is suck city. I fold this preflop, because it makes no decent lows, no good flushes, and only makes the worst possible straight. The ONLY way you can get behind this hand is if you hit quads, or a low pair with a 10 comes on the board. Other than that you are going to VERY vulnerable.

Third. (really don't want to do the math here, but your set is huge dog. AND there is a good chance you are only playing for half. I'd say you need a Q, J 10 or 4 on the river. Anything else and you probably lose. So you have 10 outs to the probable scoop, and probably every other card you have minimal equity. That being said, with 10/43 cards that help you, and 4? people already in for 50, you have odds to call, and raise. But keep in mind you probably lose 3/4 times. Such is life. If you win its a monster.

TT445 is never a hand I would play in Omaha H/L.

On the turn you were in trouble. There were way too many bad cards on the river that really hurt you. This is why I would never play that hand.

I think position is also less important in this game.

With three callers on the turn, I feel like a lot of the time someone is going to have KK and you're drawing to one out. If no one has KK, I think the deuces, fives, sevens, and the ten (11, 7 of which are scoops) are good for you, but with three players in I wouldn't count on it, and I'd fold.

Actually you need to play the nut/nut nuts, nut low, second nut high straight has been regularily mucked correctly in the games i play several times. 5 hi/lo and 6 hi/lo as they are called are regularily played at the local casino.

I was fairly certain that no-one had KK since it was checked around on the flop and a slow-play would be unlikely with the straight and low-draw on the board and the person that bet out is a habitual bluffer and actually folded. Even so I'm not happy with my hand with the hand since I had no options except the board pairing. It was a bad night for me everytime I needed the board to pair it didn't and every time I didn't want to see the board to pair it would.

Yes position is pretty irrelevant, hands almost always go to a showdown since everyone catches a piece of the flop.

I was referring to normal Omaha H/L. Yeah this game would almost completely negate position advantage. I've never played it with 5 or 6 cards but I can't think of too many bluffing opportunites in those games.

Play v tight? Thats it really.

Suited As are good, as are high pairs with A2. A3 goes way down. It wouldnt be a mistake to raise a lot less either, especially oop.

Funny 5/6 plo8b story. I raised with AA23 something or other. I flop top set, nut flush draw and nut low draw. Just as I'm thinking, how do I get paid, Blackpool maniac says, "I'll set you allin."

He nearly scoops.
