AKo, passive play and then a river freakout

Am I getting too fancy here, or is this an appropriate heads up play?

Party 2/4, 9 players. I'm UTG+1 with AKo

Preflop: 1 fold, I raise. 1 fold, MP 3 bets. Folded around to me and I call.

Flop: A 3 3 rainbow

I check, MP bets, I call.

Turn: T, completes the rainbow

I check MP bets, I call.

River: 7

I bet, he raises, I 3 bet, he caps. I call.

That river 3-bet makes no sense. Call.

If he's going to give you action on the river, he's going to give you action on the turn.

I think there are a bunch of acceptable lines for a hand like this, which you should mix up a bit:

1. Cap pre-flop. Lead flop. Lead turn, etc...

2. Call three-bet pre-flop. Check-raise flop.

3. Call three-bet pre-flop. Check-call flop. Check-raise turn.

Basically most of the different lines will only ever differ .5 BB in either direction, and some have different advantages against different types of opponents. (e.g. waiting until the turn is bad against a passive opponent who might check the turn behind and so forth).

I don't like your line because I don't think most opponents will be so scared off by a turn check-raise that forgoing that chance at an extra bet is valuable in order to confuse your opponent into a river call.
