Hi Winky,

I agree with your thinking and have adopted a similar type of play as you have. Bernie is correct about the majority of players being online, therefore, they have little understanding (or the need to) about the topics that you presented. In their defense, I have little understanding of online strategies (I play only live) and I'm sure there is a world of strategies to learn for me.

One thing I want to add from my experience is that many new players try too hard to "find" tells from other players. After much experience, it finds you in a way. It's easier to concentrate on one person and look for any type of tell. Keep in mind, that person should be someone that you think your time is worth studying, such as someone who plays many hands and the chance of you two tangling is high.

Again, I agree with all your ideas. I also enjoy the social aspects of live poker, in which knowing how to play a player goes beyond tells, but with social interaction.

Got that right. Many newbies think it's about bluffing the other guy off a pot or that outplaying someone = winning every pot.

Which couldn't be farther from the truth.

Caro's book says players look for an excuse to call.

"he blinked, hes bluffing I call!"

I use this to my advantage with new nuggets.

Daniel Negreanu, whom I respect (note the avatar), has very little "math power" compared to what you'd see on here. He's never heard of terms we take for granted because we use them so much (pot equity being one of them). Of course he knows the obvious, but math wise, he's about as set as the micro posters on here.

That said, his feel is phenomenal. He's probably the best player at picking up tells that has ever played poker. That's what lets him play the ridiculously high games he does live, even though he'd probably get handled online.

yea he is amazing. I also have to say Phil Hellmuth is amazing. Yes he has a big ego and whines more than I do but I have seen him make some AMAZING lay downs reading players. Things that I dont see how I could have laid down. Matasow is another good reader. Ferguson claims to not read players well but then again he is unreadable and plays on poker theory
