There is a skunked taste from the shade of glass used to bottle it. That is why you don't like it.

Na, I drank it from the can. For me, the flavor is overly metallic and the feel is pretty gassy. There is also too much alchohol in the finish.

I think the glass comment may be spot on. It's well known that lighter shades of glass make it easier for beer to spoil. In my experience I prefer Heineken from a can, although I prefer most beers from a bottle.

Heineken can > Heineken bottle

But when I go to the bar and drink a 'light' beer (not Light beer per se, just something pale) I usually order the cheaper stuff like a Tecate or a Pabst. Because Heineken is more expensive, typically served in bottles and not good enough to merit this.

Also, beers decline in appeal as they warm up to varying degrees. Heineken seems like it gets warm and gross faster than any other beer.

I've never understood why anyone drank Heineken. It smells like someone took a dump in every bottle.

A few to get you started:

Dogfish Head 90/120 minute IPA
Stone Ruination IPA
Unibroue Maudite or Terrible

[/ QUOTE ]

Ruination is anything but a "get you started" beer, if we're talking about pilsner/lager drinkers trying different Ale and/or IPA styles.

I've not tried the others. Dogfish Head is no longer distributed here in Southern CA. I've had a Maudite before but its been a long time.

I'm not a huge Heineken fan. If you want a GREAT imported beer that is both full-bodied and refreshing, drink Stella Artois -- Belgian beer just starting to get popular in this part of the country (Dallas)...starting drinking it a few years ago while living in Europe -- very lucky for us it's finally starting to show up over here.

Check it out next time you're at your favorite watering hole.

Hehe, perhaps it is too strong for a neophyte.

You think it tastes bad because it comes in green bottles which let the light in to skunk it more easily than brown bottles. In addition it isn't a particularly good beer in the first place.

"Heineken? [censored] that [censored]. PABST BLUE RIBBON!"
Heineken is awful. So is Rolling Rock. I would much rather have a Grolsch. But I prefer darker beers anyway.
