Default A few good threads on this board

Just started playing again after taking some time off poker. Back then I spent a little bit too much time reading this forum, and kept a record of what I liked. Amazingly I still had the file! I think I posted it earlier, but searches yielded no results. Figured I might as well put it up here again. Hope it can be of some use.

Link
- AK AQ chasing, by Norm
Great replies by ElSapo and especially Joe Tall, giving a Standard Operating Procedure for playing overcards when the flop does not hit you

Link
- Some questions concerning flush draws..., by some poster
Ed Miller has a great reply on the value of a backdoor flush, and how it can change the value of say a high card with middle pair from trash to worth playing

- Just a bad beat right?, by Sarge85
Ed Millers reply clears up the misconception regarding charging flush draws

Link
- Huge Pot, by JDErickson
JohnShaft explains when it is appropriate to value bet a strong draw

Link
- "So I 3-bet to find out where I stood...", by Ed Miller
The NPA explains why you are often NOT 3-betting for information on the flop as many of us Micro'ers think. Also great discussion between him and Vehn on why you should sometimes be raising the turn instead.

Link
- Why you guys aren't crushing these Microlimit games..., by Ed Miller
Classic thread emphasising why pot size is crucial to good poker

Link
- implied odds preflop, some poster
Dynasty explains very well the difference between pot odds and implied odds to a confused poster

Link
- Preflop Play: Take off the training wheels, by Ed Miller
Pot odds is not a consideration when you decide your pre-flop actions. You are concerned with the number of people in, how they came in, and how you rate those players

Link
- raise jacks out of the small blind?, by Bad Beetz
Wow! AWesome thread by many top posters explaining why you are correct to raise with JJ with many limpers. Post flop play is crucial, but its +EV

Playing a gutshot draw for a wheel with an ace overcard, arguing that his ace is a clean out.

Link
- Low-limit Preflop Quiz, by Ed Miller
A 20 question quiz on how to play pre-flop in a loose game (very loose I mid add). Great advice, as always, from the NPA. Also followed by a good (but long) series of discussions

- A trip report I never posted, by Inthacup
Very well written, and so funny I burts into tears. Make sure you read the replies by the other guys on the trip to!

Very funny post that should remind us that having bad players in a game is, believe it or not, probably +EV

Just hilariously funny. Breaks down the stages of development for your typical 2+2'er.

- Can Party Poker 4th and 5th street cards be predicted?, by CTV1116
Probably fueled by some discussion about Party being rigged, several posters claim to have a pattern to cards on Party, and many buy into it (look at Jek's reply - seriously funny!!!)

Thanks. I didn't have some of these in the collection yet. I love it when other people search the archives for me.

I especially love this one:
"Low-limit Preflop Quiz, by Ed Miller
A classic! Contains 20 questions on how to play a (very) loose table pre-flop"

And this is my favorite question:
[ QUOTE ]
18. UTG raises, four people call, and you have 86o in the BB.

Call. Similar to the 73s hand. Another important consideration when making these calls is WHERE the raise comes from. In this hand (and the 73s hand), the raise comes from UTG... that is, from your left. With hands like this, you will often flop a weak draw - bottom pair, a gutshot, a backdoor flush or straight draw, etc. With these hands, you would really like to be able to see the turn for one bet. When the preflop raiser (and likely flop bettor) is on your left, you check, the bettor bets, and then the whole table acts before you do. If everyone calls or folds, then you can call, closing the action. This is very advantageous RELATIVE POSITION when you have marginal hands like 73s and 86o. In fact, if the SB had raised each of these hands, rather than UTG, I probably would have folded both of them.

[/ QUOTE ]

Even "Jesus" himself can't convince a lot of 2+2ers that this is a good play. So I guess I should just stop trying.

For those who didn't search through every one of those posts, I had to show this reply by jek187 about Party being rigged. Just awesome.

[ QUOTE ]
Here is a transcript of my conversation w/Party support about pattern maps:

Indira: Thank you for holding. Indira has joined this chat session.
jek187:Hi, I've been hearing quite a bit about players using "pattern maps" on Party Poker.
jek187:Can I buy one?
Indira:Hi
Indira:Can you please give me more details about the situation?
jek187:Players on the 2+2 and RGP forums have a pattern map which can predict the turn and river cards with 85% accuracy
jek187:They are offering to sell them for over 6 figure amounts, or a really good essay.
jek187:I was hoping to buy one direct from Party.
Indira:We are very sorry to inform you that we do not have "pattern maps"
Indira:To ensure total fairness to each and every player on our tables, our software operates with a Random Number Generator system. This system operates at the highest level of encryption and randomness, to ensure fairness without exception.
jek187:Ok, I guess I'll just have to get an investment group together and buy one from a 3rd party then.
Indira:This is the system that shuffles the decks and pulls the cards, so that all players have the same likelihood of getting cards. A good random number generator is one that generates numbers that are:

*Evenly distributed, and not related to each other in any way
*Unpredictable

Our Random Number Generator system has been certified by BMM International, a highly reputable Software Auditing Company.
jek187oes x=y*sqrt(37.2fn(z^3)log8) mean anything to you?
Indira:Absolutely not......
Indira:As I said......
jek187:Ok, well ty for your time...you may want to alert your programmers to this.

I think Party is just playing dumb. Maybe Empire will sell their pattern map.

In this question, would the calls still be profitable if you only had two or three callers instead of four?

I don't know the math but I would call with 3 callers but not 2. I'd call with 2 callers if it was 86s but I'm a bit of a gambooler in what looks to be a large pot.
