Default 4 Monitor Setup Problem

Hello,

I'm trying to get my four monitor setup working, but keep running into
problems. I've got four Viewsonic VP201b monitors, all on a four
monitor stand.

I have an AGP PNY GeForce Ti 4600 and a PCI PNY GeForce FX 5500. Each
has two slots (AGP has a DVI and VGA, PCI has two VGAs).

So far, the best I've been able to do is have one video card work at a
time. I can get the computer to recognize all four monitors and two
video cards, but when I try to enable the PCI card monitors, the
computer instantly freezes (no mouse, nothing). Upon restart, the two
continue to work fine.

I've tried different drivers and even tried a different video card.
With the other video card (a GeForce MX 4000), when I try to enable
the monitors on it, all screens turn black and even upon restart they
are still black. I have to go into safe mode to uninstall the video
cards to fix this.

Is this a valid way to do a four monitor set up? Do I need a special
four monitor video card instead? If I do need a four monitor video
card, what are good AGP ones (that are as inexpensive as
possible) and how do they work (I think they usually have two slots and
an Y adapter)?. If I don't, any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks a lot

Why bother with 4 monitors? Why not just have 2 with high resolution. IF you get 2 1900 resolutions screens you can have 4 tables on each, or even more if you use mini view options.

im sure there is a way to make this work. might wanna try posting on some other forums non 2+2 see what you find. i am not sure how to do it, because i tried and failed. i just decided to go for a nvidia quadro nvs 400 from pny. makes it all go smoothely. its a pci card though, which kinda sucks, but oh well. holla

It is probably something specific to your setup.

I use a Phoenix RADEON 9000 QD which handles four monitors, but does not alllow a fifth. It appears to be incompatable with other video cards. It is possable that the same is true of at least one of your dual cards.

Read the instructions cearfully, or contact the manufactuers. You might have to change one of cards.

I did this with 2 video cards: The nVidia AGP card that came with the computer and a Radeon 9200 PCI card. IIRC, it cost about $70.

Yes, that is a valid setup.

I'm gonna play with it some more, maybe try an ATI PCI card after I try calling the manufacturers. If that fails, I'll go for the 1 card solution.

Thanks for the input.

I hate you, I hate your comp, I wish you not good luck!

( /jealous )

Wow Great set!! I wish I could have enough money to afford that! How much did it cost you? ( I would like some in depth cost if you want , like what is the 4 screen total cost + CPU total cost). Thanks!

I may consider getting a multi set up like the one pictured in this thread and I was wondering how/where do you get a stand for the upper two monitors on top. I currently have two 2001fp and it doesn't appear the monitor stand it came with supports the monitor that high up. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

This was mentioned in another thread. It's a little pricey, but if you're getting 4 LCD monitors, then I guess it won't really matter.
