Default Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?

actually (correct me if i'm wrong) but i believe the total prize pool is 100k (50 pots of $2k per at $200 entry)....so he's saying he takes down $15k total ($10k repays his buy ins) for a profit of $5k.
is that realistic? unlikely?

Oh, yeah. You are right. My bad. I really should drink my morning coffee before answering these mathy posts.

What's first prize in these things? 1K? It's still very unlikely that anyone could do this. I suppose if you're really bored, that you could sit and watch him for an hour and see how he does it. The problem with SNG's (higher limits) is that people play very similarly and I don't think that the profit is that high for anyone. You really are basically chopping up the one (or possibly 2) very bad players' entries and that's it, less the house vig. A simple calculation would be to take the total pool of each tourney, 2K and chop it up 8 ways, so this is 250 a person. What is the casino take? I think that the buyins are something like 200+20, so each "shark" is making 30 bucks per tourney, and this is about 1500 a day. In fact, I don't think that the margins are anywhere near this good, but I don't have a lot of experience in playing these things, but I know that they play a lot better in the 200 SNG's than the 30 and 50 ones.

On Party, there's more like four or five bad players in these SNGs, on average. We're talking about no-limit, I assume.

My estimate is that a good player should be able to finish something like 15-20-20 for percentage in 1st-2nd-3rd. I can't remember offhand, but I think the buyin is $215 and the prizes are $1,000-$600-$400. So a really good player's EV per tourney should be about $135. Then if you play 50 a day your average profit would be over $5,000. But I think your concentration would wane playing so much. Moreover, the other players would be able to track you and get an excellent read on your play, which would cut into your profit sharply after about a week.

Still, I think the $5,000/day EV is achievable until the good players figure you out.

In addition to the obviousness of his being full of crap, do you really think A) he wins them / places often enough to do this, and B) that the competition at the $200 buy-in level is so weak that he can do this either. Really, people make all kinds of stuper-endous claims, but this one takes the cake.
