Default Poker Tracker\'s Standard Deviation (Interesting I Think)

first let me start with how PT calculates SD (I'm pretty sure this is how they do it). A session is a table session. they find the SD based on bb/100 or bb/hr and # of hands for each.

the problem with this is that people who play longer sessions will have a smaller SD in pokertracker. the reason for this is because the SD over that sample will be smaller proportionately. if a true 15 bb/100 SD person plays all 100,000 sessions, his SD in PT will be 15*sqrt(1000) = 474 bb/100,000, or .474 bb/100. if he plays all 100 hand sessions, his SD will be 15 bb/100. I'm pretty sure PT treats them the same. the person playing longer sessions will end up with a smaller standard deviation PER HUNDRED, even though it's only smaller PER SESSION. what PT should do is treat SD in terms of 100 hand blocks, or every 60 minutes. that would give a more accurate BB/100 or BB/hr

I play long sessions without switching tables and I'm willing to play shorthanded. my 15/30 SD is 12 BB/100. these long sessions lower my session by session SD, and lowers my 100 hand by 100 hand SD in PT, which it should not

This needs to be changed in PT for sure, someone needs to ask Pat.

Pat might take issue with your assumption

hmm, I searched the PT forum before posting so I wouldn't look stupid if I was wrong.

do you have any idea why my 15/30 SD is so low?
