Re: the river
[ QUOTE ]
Very interesting and entertaining read. How did Joe Cassidy react when you showed your hand? How did this hand effect the rest of the session? [/ QUOTE ] I want to ask the same questions. |

Re: the river
He stood up and sort of groaned out of shock and was clearly pissed and said something along the lines of "I learned something". Afterward we got into a discussion about the hand and he was attempting to convince me I should have folded the turn when a hot young girl he knew came over to him and obviously that ended the poker discussion.
As for the rest of the session, I didn't stay much longer and we didn't play any more meaningful hands before I left. |

Re: the river
[ QUOTE ]
I've talked about this in some other posts, but I might as well do it again. I think one of the worst things you can do in limit holdem is make a big hand, play it tricky or slowplay it in some way so that you plant a seed of doubt in your opponent, and then make a tough fold later. Cassidy makes his hand, acts all tricky to make you thin that he is trying to get away something, and then makes the big laydown. Not a good idea. [/ QUOTE ] I also agree that Joe played this hand very poorly on the river. |

Re: the river
It's certainly monstrous enough not to lay it down.

Re: Hand vs. Joe Cassidy
Given that theres very little chance he has a pocket pair 77 or smaller, making a pair doesn't improve your hand much. If you read him weak enough that you can call with a pair you should just raise his river bet regardless of the final card (or 3bet the turn and follow through, or something).

Re: the river
[ QUOTE ]
anyway your best play on the hand was showing him he was duped. this was one of the rare instances where that was a very valuable play. [/ QUOTE ] Could you elaborate? I think I'd toss my hand in the muck with a little extra force and mutter "Jesus, can you see my cards?" |

Re: the river
"Afterward we got into a discussion about the hand"
