hansen, quintessential. lederer, no. both are world class, but lederer certainly isn't lag.

someone a while back had a great post about the stages of a poker player. early weak play, then realizing tight is good, moving then to very loose and aggresive, then ending somewhere closer to tight, but retaining much of the aggressiveness.

of course, there is no one style of poker which is most correct or the best.. in fact, truly the best poker players are the ones that adapt the best and the quickest to the table that they are sitting at.

Hi Jason:

I disagree. The problem with your statement is "What games are you talking about?"

There's no question that loose aggressive players do far better in a tournament format than in a standard side game format. But even in a tournament, the players who appear loose aggressive are in many cases still fairly tight early on. (Yes there are a few stars who do seem to be loose aggressive right from the beginning.)

In the side games, most of these loose aggressive tournament stars do poorly as long as they stick to their loose aggressive style. Those who understand how to adjust to a tighter style can certainly hold their own when not playing in a tournament.

Best wishes,
Mason
