what is he raising the flop so sizably and calling the turn with that you beat?

Aj with A spades? maybe but its a slim possibility.

It wouldn't suprise me if you were beat, if he was raising with a set on the flop then he now has a full-house.

I put him on a set...you bet too much on the turn, it will scare the set into calling it down instead of pushing, bet 10-15 on the turn and if he comes over top get it all in...check=fold river.
