30-60, JJ in the BB
10 handed online.
UTG (v. loose fish) calls, MP (mediocre/losing player) calls, MP2 (fish) calls, SB (not a good read yet) completes. I check JJ in the BB. 5 to the flop: 2h 7h 5c. SB check, I check, UTG bets, MP raises, MP-2 calls two. I 3bet, and they all call. 4 to the turn: Qs. I bet, UTG calls, MP folds, MP2 calls. 3 to the river: 9d. I bet. Thoughts? Do most prefer raising from the BB here? Check-call river? |

I think this line is ok although I prefer raising preflop.

It all looks good to me except for preflop where it's an raise that you need to be making not only with your JJ, but also with hands like TT and KQs. I like the river bet.

What was your thinking on the flop check-raise?

Re: 30-60, JJ in the BB
Personally, I like this check in the BB against many limpers. You disguise your overpair and you may get a TT or 88 to play back at you hard. Also, your check raise from the big blind could mean a weird flopped two pair, or even a straight draw with 56 I like this play and I like the agression.

Raise preflop. I like check/raising the flop against aggressive opponents.

I think you played it perfectly. You gained what you lost by not raising preflop....postflop. I like the flop check too going for a CR to protect your hand.

[/ QUOTE ] Given the action, TT and 99 are incredibly unlikely for a mid-limit online game. Also, people who simply limp these preflop are not going to play back at you hard on 8 high flops because they'll fear a big blind special flopped 2 pair. Raise and start cashing in on your preflop pot equity. -James |

Re: 30-60, JJ in the BB
raise preflop please. so much as been debated on this its not really worth it to go into it again.
that said the flop is an odd line to take, but the turn and river are very routine. |

[/ QUOTE ] this has been debated over and over again but not raising agaisnt multiple poor playing limpers (as the OP states they were) is a big mistake. you need to worry less about disguising your hand and finding clever ways to win the pot and worry more about winnning money, which means putting in a raise preflop when your equity is huge. |
