Problems with cheating?
Wallace talks about professional cheating in his book on
the advanced concepts of poker. Is cheating really as common as he suggests? |

Re: Problems with cheating?
Depends if you are playing for high stakes like bologna on white or low stakes like 300-600. Me, I get my sandwiches comped.

Re: Problems with cheating?
That book is over 30 years old, which says nothing about today's games. I actually enjoyed that book when I was playing a lot of home games right out of high school (which for the record, was less than 30 years ago), although there are some errors in the odds tables.
Old Wallace seems to have gone a little kooky with all that weird Neo-Tech stuff. Don |

The portagonist of that book is a real sweetheart. Love the ending, when the leave the restaurant owner about to commit suicide after losing everything to them in the game. Also, the notes on acting insane in the card room go Mike Caro much more than one better.

Re: Problems with cheating?
lol. I didn't remember that part. I haven't actually read the book since the late 70's or early 80's (sometime around there {now I've dated myself for sure]). Some of that stuff was surely over the top, but I believe the book actually did help me to make money. There wasn't a lot of good poker material available (at least that I knew about, yeah I know, Super System, but I had never even heard of it).

Re: Problems with cheating?
Neo-Tech, what a crock. Wallace talks like he's got the answer to pulling your personal Excalibur from the stone...and never delivers.
Fox's book "Quit Work, Sleep 'till Noon, Play Poker" probably covers angle shooting better! Sincerely, AA |

Re: Problems with cheating?
That having been said. I've got to believe there's got to be some cheating, at least in the LA Casinos, I'd expect. Come on, they're in SoCal. gangland aren't they (never been there)? I mean geez, "Crystal Park" is on Compton, right? Like the "Compton Crypts" [insert gangsta rap gang hand sign here].
I was considering a run over to CA to see the big card barns over there, but after the Super Bowl and what went on at Oakland, even No. Cal seems suspect. I checked "Best Cities" and the crime rates in Oakland run 2-4 times national average. I'd like a truthful opinion from someone who's "Been there Done That" who didn't come from somewhere that gangs are the the norm. Sincerely, AA |
