Now I'm sitting at 40$ once again. Is this just variance?

and the mistakes seem pretty minor

I REALLY REALLY doubt it.

Seriously.

Assuming that you are playing well after having just started out is not going to help your cause.

Assuming that your fluctuations of 50BB's or so in a given day somehow make that much of a difference as to whether you are a good player or not is also kind of silly.

I doubt that you can honestly know whether or not you are playing well.

Leave your party stats-box open and at least note your see-flop percentage.
I'm laying even-money that it's higher than 30%.

Erase SSH from your mind. Read "Winning Low Limit Hold Em" by Lee Jones. Play a lot. Read it again. Play more. When you find your bankroll steadily rising over time (at least a few thousand hands), then -- and only then -- read SSH.

I think this is really good advice. I know SSH is revered around here, and for good reason. But I would never hand that book to one of my friends just starting to learn the game. It's not for beginners. says so on Page 1.

WLLH has some flaws for sure, but it will turn a losing player into a winning player. Not an optimal-playing game crusher, but a winner. SSH should come later, IMO.

I agree, but I would suggest you use the tight starting hands table of SSHE from the very beginning.

Too late for me...I already started reading SSH! Oh well, I'm almost finished I won't stop now.
