This was quite awhile ago.

But it should draw comparisons to the pope in 1850s(?) who chiseled off the male genitilia of statues inside the vatican. At least it's only drapes, i guess.

Ashcroft needs to be out of there.

Holy crap, $8000 drapes? $2000 for renting one time? What kind of [censored] drapes cost 20% the yearly income of the average American family?

Daniel Burnham, a famous Chicago architect, designed Washington Union Station which opened in 1907. Apparently there was a scandal at the time because statues of roman soldiers that decorated some porticos were naked. The solution was to cover them up with "privacy shields". So now you know why John Ashcroft is so out of touch with the times...he was doing the same thing in 1907.
