New Ethics question
Was watching football with my brother. At a break, he went to the bathroom. When he came back in the Quaterback dropped back to pass. I bet him a $1 it would be a touchdown; he accepted. It was a touchdown.
Now, I did not KNOW it was going to be a touchdown, but I did know that it was highlights from other games. - Louie |

Re: New Ethics question
He didn't notice that the 2 teams on the field had changed?

Re: New Ethics question
it was a trick bet to be sure. and you are obligated to return some of the money. not all mind you as you could have lost the bet. so you need to figure out how much to return.
would you think that the amount is what you had the best of it for. or some other amount since you got paid already. or some amount since you could have lost. so whats the answer here. |

Re: New Ethics question
good bet.
i think if somebody is going to accept a bet like that on such short notice, without realizing that they were watching a highlights tape and not the original game deserve to lose a whole dollar to their brother. if it were real money, and you knew 100% that it was a touchdown, then that would be a great bet, just not against your brother. |

Re: New Ethics question
Theres always the possibility it could have been an interception, so it wasn't a sure thing.

If you said it will be a touchdown, then you lost the bet since it already happened. |

Re: New Ethics question
my guess is he would have to find out what percentage of the highlights from that network were TD passes. Multiply that percentage times the amount of money. Subtract that result from the dollar. Give your friend whatever that result is and you keep the change.... or laugh in your friends face while holding the dollar up like a conquering warrior chanting, 'who's ya daddy'......

Re: New Ethics question
i realize it could have been an interception, or a tackle at the 2, or a drunk fan running on the field in a clown costume. but it's still a good bet. at least, it seems like it would be a good bet. highlights reels from football games tend to favor touchdowns, no?
