Default Does anybody miss poker the way it was before TV?

I sure do. The tables were nicer, the people were nicer , and there was a real sense of community. I miss the days when there weren't 8 out of 10 people at a table criticizing a guy for the way he played his hand. I miss the sense of community and enjoyment that I got from even the losing players. I mean, everybody had fun at our tables, whether live or online because we entertained the people. At first, I thought televised poker was great but now I think it has ruined my former profession and (now) favorite hobby. What happened to poker????????????????

There are still smaller sites like this, where everyone knows everyone, I think bugsys poker is one of them.

Funny, you're probably the only person I've ever heard of who made the poker--> real job switched rather than the other after the boom.

Well, if it weren't for the boom, I would have never gotten turned on to poker, so I can't comment on life b4 the boom. But I would have to imagine that the influx of new, inexperienced players fattening the pre-boom players bankrolls is a good trade-off for lacking poker etiquete. Personally, what another player types in the chatbox, or says at a table, has no effect on my enjoyment of the game. I just don't care that much. Most of the time, I find the banter and sht talking an entertaining side note to the real reason I'm there, to make money.

I think the poker boom is great. Lots of new (and wealthy) players now frequent the live card rooms. Yea, you do get a table coach from time to time but they are usually not very good either. In online games, I have to play tricky just to get the kind of action I get at live games for free.
