Show on a re-steal? (This time with a poll that works.)
Hey all,
I've been trying to get more aggressive out of the blinds against LP raisers, especially those I have covered. My question is whether it is ever a good idea to show when I force the LP raiser to fold. If I push, he folds, and I show down my T5o, I have to think it would discourage future steal attempts. So, here is your question: |

No-- The resteal itself is enough to discourage future steals.
And I don't want my opponents to know I'm capable of making that play with trash. |

Yes, but only if I think it could send them on tilt.

No, I never show my hands, it gives information that good players would take advantage of.

What I mean is, what if you have a tight image, want to start stealing a lot when it gets shorthanded, and think you can steal liberally if you can convince them you're still playing tight? |

Re: Show on a re-steal? (This time with a poll that works.)
I've been to some horrible tourney tables where a majority of the players were bad, but I'd find it hard to believe that there isn't at least one other at least decent player among them who would love to see what I raise/steal with.
And the players you are going to steal from are the ones who think, and pay attention. Good players will see I don't play too many hands pf, so when I do steal with a bad hand, they won't give me action. Its the bad players that are going to call with whatever regardless of whether I've played tight or loose. Plus, most of the time (unless they show every hand) if I see someone show a weak hand down once, and not show others, I will assume that for the most part, they raise their good hands. If I see someone show a great hand once, and not show others, I will assume that they wanted people to think they are playing tight so they can get the blinds with their bad hands still.* Sort of like the Caro rule. *- only if they seem to be a somewhat good player, if I got a note on them that says idiot, then I won't pay mind to that at all, and figure they will donate their chips with an idiot play to me soon enough. |

What if Phil Laak offers you 10$ to show your hand?

Depends on what stage of the tourney I was at I guess, if it was last 2 and first paid way more than second, then it wouldn't be worth it. If it was still a full table, I probably would depending on what it was.

Re: Show on a re-steal? (This time with a poll that works.)
On the surface it seems like if you steal too much you'd want to show your good ones and if you dont steal enough you'd want to show your bad ones so that people get the wrong impression of your actual tendencies. But then you work in the mindfuck that is reverse psychology and you don't know if you are actually tilting the balance one way or the other.
Do they assume you always show because you are trying to mislead? Therefore if you show trash do you normally have the goods? Or do they take it another level and assume you are doing what you are doing and over compensate for your thinking and figure that you may actually be showing your accurate ranges but are just being tricky because you assume people will think its not your real range. So then when you throw in the chance that some people wont even take in the information and synthesize it and you have no idea how people will interpret it... Then the bottom line is that at the end of the day you are the one showing your cards and they are the ones who see your cards and that is information they gained and you have gained absolutely nothing. -Jason |
