We did this last year when going to the Rose Bowl. We stayed in a strip hotel from the 27-30th. Pretty much the majority of rooms were booked, and the ones available were like $250+. Where did we stay on the 31st? Motel6. Yep, that huge Motel6 right across the street from MGM. It was actually a decent room (just small). All you need is a bed and shower anyways.

I must say it was cool watching all the midnight fireworks from the street. It hits New Years on the east coast, and it only 9pm in Vegas. Everyone seems to dress up since its New Years, and you just almost feel a buzz in everyone you saw the closer it got to midnight. Everyone I saw seemed to be in a good mood. I highly recommend it.

There are also plenty of house/condo rentals posted all over Craig's list.

Dynasty,

You are crazy. Las Vegas has an insane number of hotel rooms. A simple check on Expedia shows countless (well, not countless - 7 pages worth) options, with Strip options starting at $175/night at the Stratosphere.

Surprised at your comment,

I doubt there are any rooms left. New Year's Eve is the busiest day of the year in Las Vegas.

i had thought that either superbowl day or midnight madness or final four type thing was the busiest day in vegas. also, yeah, there's like a bagillion rooms left in vegas right now.

Have you ever stayed at the Stratosphere?...It would have to improve (dramatically) to be shitehole ...They would have to pay me to stay there and even that didn't work

Well I'm still wanting to do this but my friends are being big pussies. My older friends have to check with their wives and my younger friends have to see if they can get the time off from work and afford it. I need new friends.
