Default VP$IP and Preflop Raising %

I play tournaments with low buy ins on stars. My average bad opponent (usually 4 at a 9 person table) plays 40% VP$IP and 5% PF raise. My average opponent (2 or 3 out of 9) plays 30% with 5% raise, and the good ones (1 or 2 out of 9) play about 20% with 8-12% raise. (Note that by "good" i mean generally the types of players that make it into the top 3 or 4). What should my average VP$IP % and PF Raise % be?

Don't worry about your stats. Worry about individual hands and making proper decisions. Post hands that you have questions about and work on fixing leaks. The stats will fall in line.

For Stars, 20 VPIP / 13 PFR is fine for an overall rate, but that is a bit confusing. You want to be tight early (12 VPIP) and open up your game as the blinds go up and players are eliminated. By Level 7 (400 BB) you should have a VPIP over 30%, opening with a raise 3/4 to 4/5 of the time.

I'm not in a position to give you advice, but here are my stats. Take from it what you will.

Stats cover 1045 $22 SNGs from 11/01/05:

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>Limit VPiP PFR
=================
15/30 14.97 5.79
30/60 13.49 7.90
50/100 16.92 11.56
100/200 20.66 16.71
150/300 25.98 21.22
200/400 32.55 25.08
300/600 35.04 27.18
400/800 44.49 34.57
500/1k 53.77 38.99 </pre><hr />

During this period my ROI is 24.30% and my WT$SD is 53%, so I'm obviously on a heater. I'd be curious to hear if other +ROI $22ers have stats significantly different VPiP/PFR percentages than mine.

For some reason, I forgot that HOH Vol. 1 had guidelines. I steered my game back towards those guidelines slightly and I can feel my winrate increasing.

I think he's talking about HOH 1's suggestions for what hands to play in the different positions. Like AA-99, AK in early position, etc.
