Re: Having Home Game Trouble!
Its been said before and Ill say it again. DONT BLUFF CALLING STATIONS. It sounds like you really need to work on some aspects of your game. I would suggest that you reread or read Small Stakes HE and Theory of Poker at the very least. Some practice online at limits around .5/1 and 1/2 would probably also be beneficial to you. Once you fix all the leaks you have in your game then you can wonder how to beat specific players.
Don't let the lucky fish bring you down. At my home game there is one guy who will draw to a flush every time unless you massively overbet the pot. Same with his straight draws. He also routinely calls on the flop with bottom/mid pair weak kicker, then calls again on the turn without improvement. He used to catch his miracle card all the time and it drove the rest of us insane. Then recently his cards stopped hitting, he went from being up 90 overall in our 5 dollar buyin game to down 130 last I checked. Now it seems like he buys in and busts 2 or 3 times then just leaves within the hour. The luck will swing against them eventually. |

Re: Having Home Game Trouble!
You tried to steal vs a calling station, then he called.
Then you missed the flop, tried to bluff a calling station, he called. Repeat for turn. Who's the donk? |

Re: Having Home Game Trouble!
There's a chapter in The Theory of Poker that deals with adjusting your play based on your opponents.
With less skilled players, you need to bluff less, because they won't fold. On the other hand, you can bet for value more for the same reason. Also, don't put too much stock in your reads of their hands. They could be playing the same way with just about anything. Don't try to get fancy. They'll destroy you. Just play basic, solid poker. |
