Default PSA for Firefox users

Download the latest version of Firefox as there have been some recent security issues. If you have a little red icon just below the close button on your browser you dont have the latest version and your system is vulnerable. Hit that button and you will download the latest patch.

Nice post about the little red icon. I knew I didn't have the latest version but figured I'd have to actually go download it myself... I'm lazy so it wasn't a high priority.

Now I'm e-condomed, thanks.

There is, as always, another option.

Opera is now free, has all the functionality of Firefox without needing plugins, and is almost twice as fast.

I really don't know anything about browsers, other than that I haven't gotten any spyware or viruses since switching to Firefox. Is Opera safer than IE? As safe as FF?

Firefox still hasn't suffered from its flaws actually being exploited like IE has. In fact, usually Mozilla patches its flaws before they're discovered by anyone, so keeping an eye on the update icon is a very good idea.

I'm running the 1.5 beta, and it's great. Seems much faster. I waver back and forth between it and Safari (yeah, a Mac guy).

Can you confirm that it's a feature-for-feature match with Firefox, including all available Firefox plug-ins? That's a pretty big feature set, considering there's a large community that has created hundreds of Firefox extensions.

Or do you mean that it has all the functionality of FF, not counting plug-ins?

Anything's safer than IE. Because Microsoft wasn't forced to disconnect IE from the Windows OS in the antitrust settlement, IE has direct system hooks that no other browser has, and that's where all the nastiness gets in.

Opera is nice, but NO it does not have all the features of firefox without needing a plug-in architecture. It does have some nice things, though. I use both, but firefox MUCH more. The plug-in architecture is firefox's biggest strength.
