River play : Did I miss a value bet?
This is my first post and concerns value betting the river. Having trouble with the converter so had to type some of this by hand.

Yes. What happened to UTG on the turn?

I would still bet the river.

Raise preflop.
I don't mind the river since the opponent's most likely hands are another ace or missed heart draw. |

Re: River play : Did I miss a value bet?
What's your read on UTG?
I'd raise pre-flop. And yeah, bet the river. |

Re: River play : Did I miss a value bet?
No reads, only 5-6 hands so far at the table.
Looking back I agree I should have raised preflop, most players would have raised with a better ace than mine here. As for my thoughts on the river, I thought there is very little chance I would be called by a hand I beat here. UTG most likely has a worse ace (which we split), a better 2 pair or trips (Not that likely, but possible he limped with A2, or A4), or a busted flush draw. I think there is a much better chance he'll bet a busted draw when checked to than call a bet with a hand I beat, therefore check and call. Don't we need to have the best hand 55% of the time to value bet the river, this is clearly NOT one of those times. Feel free to disagree |

Re: River play : Did I miss a value bet?
With the King as the board kicker, I think checking this is reasonable. You aren't going to get another Ace to fold. About the only possible hand to pay you off is a King, which doesn't seem very likely.
Seems like the spot to induce a bluff. |
