Default Do I and how much do I bet the river here?

I felt great about my play of this hand until the river came, bringing about a rather obvious straight draw. I had been value betting the whole way, but what (if anything) should I have thrown in the pot after the river card. Also, what do you think MP1 is holding??
Thanks,
Les

i think you checking was fine, seeing as how you had to act first throughout the hand. if villian has rivered a straight holding a Queen, you have chips left. it's very conceivable that villian called with A Q preflop so instead of reraising you on the flop, he just calls. villian could have also been on a heart draw that missed.

Well what do you do if he bets the river? Say, 500?

If you plan on calling, you might as well bet some sort of amount yourself, as he might call with a weak ace or weaker two pair.

Obviously if you bet and get raised, it is pretty safe to fold unless villain is a total maniac.

I would have made a blocking bet, similar to the turn bet. If you are raised, you can safely fold, but given the action, it just looks like a weak ace called you down.

I think this gets to the heart of this issue. If you think he'd bet without a Q after you check, I think you should blocking bet an amount that you feel he won't raise without a Q. It's read dependent in that way.

Little did I know how safe I was. I wonder what size bet,if any, he would have called with his fours??? I literally could not believe his holding when I looked it up a couple of hands later.
<<<** Dealing River ** [ Jd ]
Hero checks.
Villan checks.
Hero shows [ Ac, Kd ] two pairs, aces and kings.
Villan doesn't show [ 3c, 4c ] a pair of fours.
Hero wins 1060 chips from the main pot with two pairs, aces and kings.
