Party 1/2NL: Flopped straight, easy laydown?
I'm a 400NL player that's on a horrible downswing so I'm on a somewhat aggro table about 3-orbits into the action. I have a very LAG image so far(Reraised preflop once already, folded to a checkraise).
I thought it was a fairly easy fold but does anyone think I should have played it differently, i.e. bet out the flop. Do you put either opponent on two pair? tripps? flushdraw? TPOESD? Nut straight? 48o for second nuts? What's sad is that before I even folded I thought, "this would make an interesting post." if just one of them pushed, the decision would be more difficult, but when 2 people allin after you raise it, it makes the decision to fold much easier. Even if you assume what I think is the best possible situation for you here- up against a flush draw and likely a set, you only take it down 38% of the time which is about break-even in the long run. Plus if someone has the nut str8, you are just hoping for a chop, so i like the fold. of course it is possible that some moron would play 78 this way, but i just dont see that happening given the way the action went.

Re: Party 1/2NL: Flopped straight, easy laydown?
I think that's a great laydown.
BB I'm not afraid of. UTG is your only real worry. I can't see UTG on 84 or 43. A flopped set or 89 are the only real possibilities (though a hand like 55 would be likely to raise earlier on that drawlicious flop). More often than not you're beat here, and the times you're ahead there about a bazillion cards that lose you the pot. You have to be ahead AND dodge a minefield to take this one down. The 2.5:1 pot odds make it tempting, but I don't think end up with the best hand on the river 30% of the time. NOTE: at any stakes lower than 1/2 I probably can't get away from this due to the donk factor. At 50 NL its an instacall. Kings |

Not to be results oriented or anything, but it appears that I would have been right too. The way I see it, there is only one hand that beats yours: 98. Since when is everyone folding the second nuts, just because there is action on the flop? They could be holding overpairs, flush draws, sets, two pairs, whatever. Folding is weak here IMO. There are lots of hands that you are ahead of that play like this. And only one that beats you. |

Reread the post... UTG flopped the nut straight with OESFD. [/ QUOTE ] True. Doesn't really matter though. I still think there are more hands than 98 that play this way. But like I said: I play the 50's... |
