They don't serve any functional purpose [/ QUOTE ] completely false. they do an awesome job of blocking out sun, i prefer a hat to sunglasses unless i'm literally looking into the sun while i'm driving. as a dude with a shaved head, it also keeps sunburns away and warms my head during winter. i also hate having crap in my pockets, so when i get to work i put all my keys, wallet, etc into my hat so it all sits in one place.

[/ QUOTE ] See, I never thought that they did, because they only block the sun when it's coming from overhead, but if it's even a little bit in front of you, it gets in under the visor. [/ QUOTE ] I nevere thought about the sunburn thing, although I never thought that hats did a very good job keeping my had warm and that a wool ski cap was always much better.

the sun is very seldom in front of me to such a degree that a hat is ineffective. i never wear sunglasses now, and i have nice prescription ones.
i agree that a ski cap would be warmer, but a hat is all-purpose and it still does the job fine. between that and a hooded sweatshirt i'm good to go.
