Default If I don\'t care about HDTV, is this a good deal?

Ok, so I'd like to have HDTV, but we probably won't spring for a decent set for a few years. Right now the mrs. and I can survive without it.

But, we want to get something bigger than the 20" Panasonic set that I have right now.

Through the classifieds at work, I can get a Sony Wega Trinitron 32" for like $250. Similar sets between $200-$500 come up often right now, since a lot of people are upgrading to HD.

Is that a good price for the product? Better off buying a new set in the same price range? We've had a lot of HD threads on here, but I was just wondering for the cost-conscious consumer what you can get in the $250-$300 range these days.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Not sure if you want to go this route, but I got a 32" JVC for $20 at a garage sale.

It's [censored] huge. I think they would have paid me to take it just because it was in an awkward spot in their house and it weighs approximately 3200 pounds.

Anyway, I'm very happy with it for $20

Off topic slightly, how many shows are in HDTV over there?

See, that's part of the reason I'm willing to wait right now. If Celebrity Poker Showdown isn't in HD, do I really need HD at the moment?

This is my old TV. I just moved, and gave it to my brother because it would'nt fit in my new place. The thing literally weighs 200-250 pounds, and its like 4 feet deep. I guess since it's so cheap you can just ditch it when you get your new TV, but it's really a pain in the ass to own.

Hardy har.

More accurate assessment is that we found out just how expensive furniture is going to be.

Thanks for the thoughts from the rest of you. I figured there was a chance that thing might be so heavy that it'll be a pain in the ass to move around down the road. I'll have to think about just biting the bullet and going HD, time to search for those past threads....
