Normal variance. Get over it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly variance that's what I said.
I wouldnt like to get over it. I'm on a roll right now. (+220BB for 1600 hands at 3/6)

one of my recent observations. here's a hand that was posted:

Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
1 fold, MP1 calls, MP2 raises, 2 folds, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, SB calls.

Flop: (12 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets, SB calls, Hero raises, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, SB calls.

Turn: (10 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, SB calls.

River: (14 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets, SB folds, Hero calls, MP1 calls.

Final Pot: 17 BB

[/ QUOTE ]

and here's fire_fly's advice:

[ QUOTE ]
bet this river, and if raised, reraise.

villain will show you a pair of queens more often than anything. Don't be a p**sy.

Only call the raise if there's 4 to a flush or strait on the board.

[/ QUOTE ]

right fire_fly?

I quote semi-obscure 80s songs in variance posts to get over it.

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Downswings suck especially when you're moving up to a higher limit. You don't know if it's your play, b/c the games are harder, or just variance. I too beat the crap out of 1/2 and have had more limited success at 2/4 and 3/6. Focus on game selection and playing well. You will get through it. Just realize that the donks at 2/4 are the amse as aat 1/2 you just have to adjust to the better players.

Don't worry about it fly. I have been crushed before. Once lost over $1k in three weeks playing 2/4 & 3/6. Did not have PT then, but I reacted by becoming more determined. I started posting more responses to hand threads.

Just asking: is there a reason you have comparably fewer posts than many others on this board?

To OP-I'm getting annihilated right now and I know it's 75% running cold. The other 25% is me making dumb bets that have no chance of folding everybody and just bloat the pot. I hate being stupid-aggressive. It happens. Just got to run with it or take Jaran's advice.

I love this song. I have it on vinyl, but I need to find an mp3 now that I don't have my record player anymore.

EDIT: I just read this and I bet most of you don't know what a record player is (even though I'm only 25).

Lol, yeah, I don't chime in with 1 word replies like a lot of people seem to love to do (that and I don't post many hands which I know is bad.)

I actually do have a piece of paper in front of me when I play to write down interesting hands to post, but I rarely do it. I'm lazy sometimes (ok, ok, a lot of the time )

Yup, that was me. Anyone play it different? By you pointing this out, it makes it sound like I gave some terrible advice or something.

Would anyone say that giving villain credit for bd strait or flush and therefore checking river be a good play (ie HELL NO)?

We need a designated "I'm on a downswing, somebody hug me" thread.

I'd recommend taking some real time to look back at your play. Like the last MicroPoster suggested, a downswing is often due to poor play. I find it hard to believe that a winning player can have a downswing entirely due to bad luck for 7k hands.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The cards have just been so horrid lately that I'm not surprised at all that I'm losing, but there could still be some bad play mixed in with the deck of death. I'll try and do a full analysis.

By the way, how do you guys look over your play? I always just look at every single hand from the last few days (damn it, I should have been writing hands down, but I haven't, pththththth) Are there any specific starting hands or situations you look for?

Oh and another pt related thing I've been wondering is this. How do you find out how many times your pocket pairs have become sets, and then see how many of those sets have won over a period of time?

I see ppl refer to this a lot, but don't know where they're getting the #s from.
