You may have that protection with regard to a CRIMINAL court but you do NOT have that same protection in a CIVIL court. Unless Indiana has a 'Bernard Goetz protection law' which keeps criminals from suing their victims.

In many states you have to worry about criminal court as well. They was a case were a pawnshop owner who got burglarized half-a-dozen times in 6 months. So he got some rattlesnakes and would release them on the floor when he closed up. Each morning he would get his snake handling equipment and put them back in their cage. One morning he opened the door to his shop and found a dead burglar on the floor and another cowering on top of a table. He called the cops. The DA gave the surviving robber immunity to testify and tried/convicted the shop owner on criminal charges. I forget what the exact charge was but the judge chastised the DA for giving immunity. They made a show on this case on TV. Also in the UK a home owner was sent to prison for shooting a robber with a shotgun. The UK is going down the tubes. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
