KK OOP on an AQ flop
Party 6-max 1-2NL
Villain has 375 and I cover. His stats are 20/11 Villain open raises to 8 on the button and I make it 24 total from the BB with KK and he calls. The flop is AQ8 with two diamonds and I don't have a diamond. From his stats, Villain seems pretty tight, so if he calls a bet on the flop I can be pretty sure that I am beat. I'm not sure if he would bet after a check with a smaller pair. So is it even worth betting this? Do you think he calls a reraise with 88-JJ enough for betting to be profitable? Against a looser player I would almost always bet about 35 here, but against a tight player I am not so sure. |

Re: KK OOP on an AQ flop
If villian is at all decent his hand range will be wider than normal due to the deep stack sizes. I think he could have any pocket pair here, or even a suited connector, so I go with the standard bet/fold the flop

Re: KK OOP on an AQ flop
I think I agree with you. For some reason at the time I had a feeling that he was really tight and had to have had me beat there. I checked and he bet 30 and I folded. But now that I think about it, it seems like a pretty clear bet.

Re: KK OOP on an AQ flop
He's opening on the button, presumably his range is much wider in that position. He can have any pocket pair, for example.

Bet... I would expect you to take it down right there a lot. If he calls/raises, I am done with the hand.

Re: KK OOP on an AQ flop
Lately I've been making my reraises in these positions bigger because opponents take you for stealing a lot. I would go like 30-35 here, but it doesn't really factor into the hand. Villian raises with a lot of hands on the button even when he's 20/11. Make your standard continuation bet, and hope for the best. I think you definitely get enough folds, and it sets up your future bets when you have a stronger hand.

[/ QUOTE ] As a bit of a tangent, I prefer keeping my re-raises from the blinds pot-sized but making my range AA-QQ/AK and also JJ/AQ maybe depending on opponent. Then I bet any flop, and I have some kick ass shania which puts some nice reverse implied odds on my opponent if he want to call my flop bet. If he calls my flop bet I usually check-raise turn or check/fold turn, I find this overall strategy works very well to lose a small pot or win a big one.
