"could face prosecution under three federal statutes: the Interstate Wire Act, the Illegal Gambling Business Act and the Travel Act"

OK... someone correct me if I'm wrong -- Interstate Wire Act was in response to sports bets placed over telephone lines, correct? Answer -- cable internet, and internet in general seems to be a bit "untouchable" in the court system since it didn't even exist durring the time in which this Act was put in place (like, 1970ish???).

Illegal Gambling Business Act -- well, it's not in the US now, is it?

I haven't the foggiest idea what the "Traveling Act" is... someone wanna chime in here (I'm obviously NOT a law student).

Jay Cohen, co-founder of WSEX online sportsbook licensed and operating in Antigua, returned to the United States in 1998 to put the Wire Act to tis test (not telephone, not in the U.S.). He has been in jail since 2000.

The U.S. Justice Department insists that the Wire Act applies, and that it extends to any wagering online.

Aside from Jay Cohen, that has not been put to the test.

So apparently the Justice Dept. doesn't give a rat's about case law (the premise that PartyGaming continues to lean upon)?

I'm going to Google it, but does anyone have any links to articles about Mr. Cohen?

http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/cybercrime/cohen.htm

Isn't this an entirely different ordeal since sportsbetting is ENTIRELY illegal in the US? His Sportsbook hosted wagering from U.S. citizens for U.S. sports teams... so it makes sense that the USDOJ would use the Wire Act as support in such a case, however, I can't see where justice is served when our Gov. has done nothing to regulate American's internet use so far. It's still a GLOBAL forum.
