Default College Time

This year, I'm heading off to college. My parents, as a graduation gift, are giving me a laptop of my choice. I don't think price will be too much of an issue. (Within reason.)
I want a really good computer that I can use for papers and checking school email and whatnot, but also for playing 2 table Party poker and some games (i.e. Counter-strike).
What do you fellas reccomend?

Thank you for your help.
-Ben

Don't you mean a "computer for playing poker and oh, yeah maybe a school paper if I get time"?

Hahah. I wish. I suck at poker, so hopefully I won't put too much stock into my gaming abilities.
But, by surfing the internet, I do mean having beer shipped to my dorm from overseas.

Go to PC Magazine's website and check out their section on laptops. I don't own a laptop, but read 3 or 4 computer mags a month including most computer reviews, and from what I've read, would go with something in the IBM Thinkpad line for exceptional durability, which is a necessity because of the high cost of repairing laptops if you have an "oops".
