Raising in order to thin the field is good... but you really need a hand to do it. You need to have hit a good pair or so in order to make that work for you.

If you're on the draw, then you need more people in the pot in order to make it worth your while to call. The more money that gets in the pot the easier it is to stay in for your straight draw.

Call the flop, and fold UI at the turn.
