Default An excercise at keeping perspective when losing

Most of us are pretty conservative and play WAY below what is normally considered 300 bb rolls. I am no exception. Still, whenever I lose, it's frustrating. So I was just lurking over at the mid/high stakes forum, reading a few hand reviews. I just had a session at 2/4 where I ran pretty bad... (several runner runner bad beats -- you know the story -- Party is rigged, yadda yadda) but what I lost was was still less than a big bet at this 100/200 post I just read!

Next time you run poorly for a while, mossie on over to mid/high and lurk around. It really puts things in perspective. Then think about yr overall poker situation. You'll feel better.

Heh, I never thought of that. In a bad session at .50/1.00 I might drop $20. That's 1BB at 10/20.

Great, now I'm just gonna be depressed if/when I run good, too! "Sweet, I won a hundred bucks...wait, that could've been like $5000!"

I think it makes you lose perspective, but we all do whatever we must to talk ourselves down from the ledge when running bad.

Greg,

I think this is potentially dangerous thought. It could easily lead to a laissez-faire "welp, it's only 50 cents, I'll call" attitude. Thoughts?

It depends on yr discipline when playing. If you don't make proper decisions then that is another issue. I make the calls based on the odds I'm getting.

It's after a crappy session that this is a good thing to do. I'm definately not trying to foster an "it's only money" attitude, though I guess I can see how a newer poster could take it that way.

Maybe this was not the wisest post to make.

Not trying to be rude but if you're playing without a 300BB bankroll, you have no perspective to regain.

This helps me put losing streaks into perspective:

Homer's Bankroll Sim

Just hit F9 over and over while viewing the graph.

For perspective I open my poker journal and take a look at the bottom line.

Also read entries from over the past two years after losing and winning sessions, to see just how far I have come.
