Default The Blue Screen Of Death

This one's for Windows XP users, as far as I can tell. I normally leave my computer on all night, since I'm on college power anyways (hey, I'm not paying for it, lets make it convenient). Anywho, I normally just take it down to AIM and Ares running at the end of the night.

This problem's happened a few times. I wake up and open up the laptop and see the blue screen of death, but not the normal one about a problem where you hit enter to go back to Windows and continue or not. This one had a bunch of stuff I didn't take the time to read and at the bottom said "Beginning dump of physical memory". Now, I'm not much of a computer guy, but this sounds bad. However, only once has this ever actually been associated with a real problem. Anybody else ever seen it and could maybe tell me what's up with my ghetto laptop?

somewhere in the blue screen info there is a line that will state where the problem occured.

Usually it will be a .dll or a memory location.

Blue screens in XP and 2000 anyway, are pretty much indicators of bad software, not hardware. What have you installed recently, and have you made any changes to your system?

If you haven't, might be time to take a look and see which programs you never use and can get rid of.

If it happens again, post the blue screen cause code.

Write down the stuff at the top. It should say something like:
***STOP: 0x0000000A (0x7FFF0000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000,
0x80174C6B) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL*** Address 80174c6b has a base at ...

Post it back here or look up the bugcheck code and see if it tells you what is happening.

This happens to me sometimes too. When I reboot it says "windows has recovered from a serious error." Hmmm...

could be a bad driver depending on what the blue screen actually says. if it happens more, take note of the message.
