Taking a break (lc)
As mentioned in a previous post I have been going through a real bad time.
Lost about $700 in a week. So, I have withdrawn all the money from my poker accounts and plan not to play for at least a week and a half. I hope I don't suffer too many withdrawl symptoms. Hopefully, I will then feel much better with my game. Maybe I will also drop down a level just to build up my confidence. Has anyone else ever found that a break like that can help? |

Re: Taking a break (lc)
Yeah, it does help.
I had a break, I think it made me too weak tight, I'm at 1.5ptbb/100 over 7000 hands at NL50 with a w$%SD of 57% I think I'm giving up tons of value. |

Re: Taking a break (lc)
I make myself take a few days break when I feel I've been playing badly. It works for me.

Re: Taking a break (lc)
Yeah, at the end of august i discovered after running bad that i had become a tilt monkey and losing player. I had lost all love for the game and if continued at the current pace I'd lose my bankroll and hardearned cash.
This is how tilting and playing bad looks: I decided something drastic needed to be done, so I started playing limit and basicly relearned the game from scratch. It's the best poker decision i've ever made. I've refound my love for poker, rebuild a good bankroll, become a decent limit player (I'm playing $10/20 reguarly) and I'm back to playing decent NL (playing $200 and $400nl 6-max fairly ok IMO). Take a break, look at the game with new eyes and get back to the tables a better player. You don't necessarily need to switch to limit or something drastic like that, but play a little PLO for example or just take a 2 week break where you read the forums and your poker books. It helps. Here's how playing decently and running extremely hot looks: Don't become a losing player like it's apparent i was at the end of that strech. Good luck. |

Re: Taking a break (lc)
Wow, good post.
I really appreciate it when experienced and good players show their poker experience from a macro level, you get to appreciate how long it takes to progress as a player |

Re: Taking a break (lc)
To answer your earlier question that I missed in the channel. No, it's not a brag post. Good to share with the 'younger' players.

Re: Taking a break (lc)
I usually do 1 of the following 3:
1) Watch a lot of porn 2) Get really drunk 3) or both 1 and 2 That usually takes my mind off the game and I can clear my ''head'. Good luck. Hope this helps. |

Re: Taking a break (lc)
Reviewing PT helps a lot. I take enough of a break until I can figure out exactly why I lost so much money (usually 1-2 days).
If it was bad beats, then just stay strong. If hands are questionable then post 'em, if you have obvious leaks, then maybe drop a table or 2 and work hard on fixing them until it becomes routine for you to do the right thing. |
