Stardust, Is it worth playing?
I'll be staying at the Stardust next week, and was wondering if I should play there or play elsewhere? I'm thinking the MGM, Excalibur, and Aladdin. Stardust has a great room rate and would like to build my comps there, but I never see any post about the place. I'm a 5/10 to 8/16 player and they only say Stardust is 3/6. Too low for me
What do you guys think? |

Re: Stardust, Is it worth playing?
SD is all 3/6 and basically locals and passers through, not a serious poker place.
It's gone non-smoking recently, I haven't been there in a couple months, but I couldn't stand all the chain smoking regulars, I will have to return JUST to see how it is non-smoking. SD does cash back on play, so if you do random machines and table games, definitely sign up. One of the better casinos overall though IMHO with probably the best Sports Book in Vegas. They did remove 4 FP VP machines that we used to play for hours when a buddy comes to visit from out of town, but look around if you do any of that, especially near their keno area. Riviera across the street has a 10pm starting late night buffet for $10, closed Fridays, do go if you are hungry then, unlimited NY strip steaks cooked to order, hamburgers too if you want them and lots of other good eats... including bacon and usual breakfast fare!!! Always get hungry thinking about it! It's never crowded and staff is very nice, it's basically the buffet for employees, they have their own section and it's actually a nice dining area, I was there within the last 3 months, nothing has changed, very good! Wayne Newton is leaving SD so I wonder if that will make an impact on the place, main draw is the Sports Book though, right by the main enterance, very full on weekends! >TW< |

Re: Stardust, Is it worth playing?
I played at the Stardust during my last Vegas trip back in November. We were staying at the Riv so it was nice and close. Only played there for about 3 hours though.
I probably wouldn't bother going back to play poker. Pretty small room, only 3-6, and when I was there it was mostly chain-smoking locals. If you are just passing by and want to play for a couple hours it might be worth your time to drop in but for a "serious" game I would go elsewhere. Overall though I like the Stardust. My first time in Vegas was at the Stardust so I always like going there whenever I visit for a bit of blackjack. I kind of like the semi-old-school feel of it. |

Re: Stardust, Is it worth playing?
I actually cut my teeth at the $3/6 Stardust game a few years ago. Looking back, it was a terrible place to learn how to play live casino poker. The room is 75% locals. They're not the best poker players in the world, but with so many of them, they're like sharks. They just swim around and wait for the fresh meat to drop into the room.
If you do play there, make sure you sign up for the free-roll. |

Re: Stardust, Is it worth playing?
I'm going there this weekend with a group of friends for a bachelor party, pretty much because I was able to get the $45 poker rate for the 5 rooms we are getting (rates all seem very high this weekend - I am told it is because of national broadcasters conference). Anyway, I have a few questions:
Do they spread any games other than holdem (O8, stud, etc.)? Is 3/6 all they have for holdem, or do they have any higher limits or NL games? Does the monorail run close by, or is there a shuttle or some other easy access to the south end of the strip? Is the coffee shop or other restraunts acceptable for lunch and dinner, and if not are there close alternatives? Any other usefull information I should know about? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Stardust, Is it worth playing?
Was also wondering if the Stardust has any bad beat or high hand bonuses. Again, thanks for any info.

Re: Stardust, Is it worth playing?
You should play in a lot of different rooms. I think that will give you the best vactation experience.

When I was there all they had was 3-6 hold em. Didn't see any other limits or other games. >>Does the monorail run close by, or is there a shuttle or some other easy access to the south end of the strip? The closest monorail stations are going to be at the Sahara or the LV Hilton. Both are probably about a 10-15 minute walk from the Stardust. Not exactly close but not too bad either. If it is a nice day and you need some fresh air it isn't too bad of a walk. >>Is the coffee shop or other restraunts acceptable for lunch and dinner, and if not are there close alternatives? If you are just looking for a quick meal you can walk to the McDonalds next door or up to Slots-o-Fun or Westward Ho for their monster hot dogs. Super cheap and filling As far as places to eat at the Stardust there is a little deli by the sports book, a Tony Romas, a buffet (not too good) a steak house, and another restaurant that has sandwiches, burgers, salads, etc. that is pretty good. Also the Riviera (across the street) has an OK food court that has Pizza Hut, a couple chineese places, and stuff like that. The Peppermill is also across the street and is like a more expensive Denny's and the food (breakfast at least) is good. |

You should stop in just to see the fireside lounge for mad retro appeal. Also right next to the Peppermill is Ginseng Korean BBQ. Not much for atmosphere, but the food is good, plentiful and reasonable. If you like kimchi, bulgogi, chigae, etc., you'll enjoy it. |
