Default Jerry Rice retires

Story

He didn't make the #3 receiver in Denver so he decided its time. So sad, I was waiting for one of his kids to join him in a couple of years.

It's close, but I think he is arguably the greatest player of all-time. Jim Brown, of course, being the other one with a claim. Regardless, he's at worst the 2nd greatest player ever and there's a large gap to #3. Today's younger players could learn something from his work ethic and dedication.

He has too much God given talent to really be a good coach, unless he becomes a trainer on some team.

I disagree. I've read quotes from players saying he'd be good. What made him great was that in addition to his talent, he worked hard and was technically very good. He ran routes so well, etc. He never just depended on being bigger or faster. He did everything so well.

whew, for a second there I thought we'd have trouble. I read it as "It's close, but I think he is arguably the greatest receiver of all time" in which case there would be a hissy fight over the words close and arguably.

I heard part of the reason the Seahawks picked him up last year was hoping he coulda sorta be a help for their receivers and all there damned dropped passes.

Didn't work.

Now, of course, that role is different than being a coach, but there are similarities.

He certainly isn't a guaranteed good coach, but may be able to pull it off.

I consider myself lucky to have grown up a 49er fan and am still in awe of what he was able to do on the field.

Interesting, they're talking about this on ESPN radio, and Mel Kiper Jr. calls Elway the GOAT.
