Where is the drinking water?
Can someone tell me why the people of New Orleans don't have clean drinking water, yet? I'm sure the military has facilities for setting up temporary filtration systems.
Supposedly FEMA drilled for just this scenario (huge hurricane hitting NO) just last summer. It seems like one of FEMA's priorities would have been to drill on setting up water filtration systems so that people would have water to survive. It just seems like this whole recovery effort is a cluster. |

Re: Where is the drinking water?
I think the bigger issue is one of logistics. I'm sure they have plenty of water, but getting it out to everyone is the hard part. Particularly since everything is flooded.

You left something out of your post:

Re: Where is the drinking water?
I'm talking about these things (portable filtration systems):
http://www.zenon.com/applications/mu...response.shtml I have not heard about one portable filtration system being set up. We are the richest country in the world and we can't set up a few portable filtration systems during a disaster? Something doesn't smell right to me. |

Re: Where is the drinking water?
The water is available outside the city. The need is actually not that big, 100 000 people can survive on 5 trucks pr day, so emptying a distribution facility for Coca-Cola could be enough for a week. The difficulty lies in distribution inside the city.

Helicoptering in a few filtration systems and setting them up in various spots around the city would likely be easier. I don't understand why that hasn't yet been done. |

Re: Where is the drinking water?
Things are difficult in the city when you're being shot at. There's a whole line of people who came with their boats to help bring people out, but they're being held outside the city because boats and other vehicles are being shot at by people trying to commandeer them.
