Flop play with a big draw.

I feel I have no chance of making either opponent fold on this flop. I was uncertain how to play my draw, should I be capping this flop for value? sb opens light but likes to go to showdown. I don't have stats on UTG, but my player notes show he likes to limp in early position with big pairs, and then go crazy on the flop.

you have an interesting dilemna here because you are trading between value on the flop and being able to checkraise the field on the turn. I often just call these 3-bets so I can C/R when I do hit, even though there is certainly value on the flop. meh.

capping the flop doesn't necessarily stop you from bet/3betting the turn if you hit. Also, a nonzero percenatage of the time if you hit on the turn and you check utg will check behind too which sucks. Finally, capping the flop will sometimes scare utg into checking behind on the turn with a made hand.

Cap flop for value...

You can lead turn here. But if you know UTG bets then you can check/call. This way as it played out you get SB inthere aswell. if the turn didn't pair you almost have equity to raise the turn since you'll hit around 32% of the time.

I prefer hero's line here because capping the flop is likely to lose the SB, whom has little chance of winning if you make your hand. You have the potential of picking up an extra 2.5 bb's that way with little loss in opportunity. You're very unlikely to lose if you hit.

The only reasons I can see not to cap the flop with a comfortable 50%+ equity here are if you think you might fold a player (not likely, especially with your read) and if you feel it might telegraph your draw (not something I'm concerned about with this action, since action will almost certainly slow down with a flush card unless you're up against another flush (and then you need to worry anyway) and you can probably c/r the straight, whether or not you cap.

Rest of the hand plays itself, though I'd give serious thought to folding if the SB raised the turn and faced you with 2 cold, when the board paired.
